Here come the Payettes!
We were so excited about our friends, the Payettes, coming to Sevilla today. Amy, Tom, Thomas & Andrea spent a few days in Madrid and will be in Sevilla for a week. It is so fun to share this beautiful city with friends from Orange! I tried to keep the boys busy because they wanted to know exactly when to expect their friends. Keeping to my goal of one cultural outing a day, we headed to get churros at the Triana bridge. We got there a little late (best time is mid-morning not 1:30 p.m.), but we were able to enjoy some churros covered in chocolate-yummy! We all agreed that we would rather have plain churros that you dip into chocolate. Regardless, the churros were devoured in just a few minutes and the boys were very happy. We then crossed the bridge into Triana and explored the "Mercado de Triana," which was a market connected to the bridge. The boys picked out their favorite (and expensive) ham-jamon iberico de bellota (Andrew needs to teach me how to do accent marks on the mac as I am butchering the Spanish right now). I was able to select some manchego cheese, bread and some fruit. We beat Andrew home and I was able to fix a pretty nice looking Spanish lunch. The Payettes made it to the apartment in the late afternoon and settled in really quickly. We then took them on a walking tour of Barrio Santa Cruz, which is the old part of town. The streets are narrow and it is really easy and fun to get lost. We were also able to show them how close we are staying to the cathedral and the alcazar (palace) and gardens. Dinner was at Andrew's friend's new restaurant, Mojigata. It was really cool and we were served a variety of atypical dishes, including a hot dog of froie gras! Definitely a different twist on tapas. What was very typical was how late we ate dinner....oh, did I mention that we had to go to the plaza and play soccer before heading to dinner? What day wouldn't be complete without a good game of futbol. After a long day we headed home to get ready to go learn all about bullfighting tomorrow.
