Hi all. It's Andrew and I am finally on vacation. We pulled in to San Sebastian yesterday and Melanie and I both had the exact same feeling- it is so great to be here. Our apartment is beautiful and the location is hard to beat. A couple of blocks to the beach, a couple of blocks to the Parte Vieja (pincho bar heaven) and we are on a pedestrian street. Robbie and I hit the San Martin market just as they were closing and stocked up on some fruit, vegetables, bread and chicken while Tommy and Melanie went to the supermarket for milk, cereal, and other staples. I brought with us a great olive oil from Castellon that I had bought in the Central Market of Valencia. We cooked up the chicken with garlic, tomatoes and onions and served it with pasta. For dinner we headed to the Parte Vieja, which was packed to the gills with others with the same idea. La Mejillonera was so full that we could not get through the door so we headed to La Cuchara de San Telmo, where we squeezed in and fought for space. All their dishes were fantastic and we will go back and get some pictures. Today we squirmed to the back of La Mejillonera for lunch and found a sliver of counter space to order mussels, calamari with padron peppers and patatas bravas. We then hiked Monte Urgull for some stunning views of both La Concha and Zurriola beaches. We made it to the top were there is a large Jesus statue. Then it was straight for the beach for some soccer for the second straight day. This may not be Spain or France, but it sure feels like the best of both.
